Another attempt at HDR. Tripod used. Very little color manipulation added to this image. This is what it really looks like! Taken in Valley of Fire, NV. Sunrise April 2, 2011

Absolutely gorgeous! It must have been very intense in person, because the highlights in the sky are still blown out even though its HDR. Great job capturing the detail!
Wow, you're a new photographer and you're already creating such beautiful images? I have to admit I'm a little jealous. When highlights are "blown out," it means that the detail of the very bright areas of the image is lost. The part of your sky that looks almost completely white is an example. Blown out highlights are not desirable because the extremely bright area is distracting to the eye, and that's why people usually use HDR. By under-exposing an image to capture the highlights, and overexposing one image to capture detail in the shadows, and then combining them, you are able to create an image that shows all the tones your eye was able to pick up. I assume that's what you did with this image, so I was surprised that even when you underexposed for the sky, there was still some blow-out. Hope that explains my comment, let me know if anything is still confusing!
lol thanks... We have been taking pictures for going on about 2 months now.... thanks for the info. we got a 16x20 of the sunrise photo and the part that appears blown out actually appears yellow so it is not bad in the print...
